On
the Cistercian Monastery Route, Vila-rodona is a peaceful village
surrounded by countryside, vineyards and orchards, caressed by the
River Gaià and guarded by a castle. It is only 10 minutes from the
Monastery of Santes Creus and half an hour from the Monastery of
Poblet. Tarragona, with its magnificent Roman monuments, including
the walls, the amphitheatre and the circus, (declared a UNESCO World
Heritage Site in 2000), is only 20 minutes away. The village is in
the county of Alt Camp, famous for its “calçotades”. The mediaeval
walled town of Montblanc is a 20 minute drive and the Costa Daurada
and its beaches, marinas and fishing harbours with their traditional
fish auctions, is also just 20 minutes away.
